Kingmaker has many unique qualities as a mod, which is why I believe will make it one fantastic mod!

It is set at the time of The Wars of the Roses (1455-85) in England, and the two armies are the Yorkists who are fighting against the Lancastrians.

Firstly, it is going to be using the much anticipated and fabulous Half-Life 2 engine, giving us, as a mod team, more possibilities to make the mod better for you, as the public, to play. It has an ingenious class system, which will interestingly include NO classes.

There will be two fundamental values for the class system, which are "Prestige points" and "Valour". Whichever team you pick, you will start at level one, called the militia. The militia is the basic fighting force, and is recruited from all across Europe. It is not very reliable in battle due to the often poor quality of the weapons, armaments and training; however there are large numbers of them. The militia will only have choice of the cheapest or most basic weapons and armour to pick from.

When you kill an enemy, you gain valour and prestige. The prestige can be used to buy armour and weapons, and the valour is used to move up social and military levels.

There are 3 levels to play up to, first the Militia, then the Retainer and finally the Lord levels, and each one provides you with more weapons, more armour, and more "accessories" to obtain (eg. horses, flaming arrows, higher technology etc.).

Kingmaker has chosen the Late Medieval period as it was so amazing in regards to the speed of technological development which bought it to the Renaissance era after about 1500. The development and killing power of the weaponry will be central to Kingmaker and it's game structure. Kingmaker will accurately and properly portray the fighting style of the time.

King Maker will be so revolutionary because it recreates the real state of war of a fascinating period in England's history. It focuses on proving to you that a late-medieval battlefield can be one of many things, it can be bloody (and often is), it can be honourable and glorified, but over all, it is the place of making and breaking for Kings.

I hope you enjoy the ideas we have put forth, and we hope you will stay around and watch us develop!

Kingmaker Progress

News 8 comments

Here is a quick news update for Kingmaker: A Country Divided which has been worked on extremely hard to get the first few in-game pictures of our first Militia Model armed with the XV Sword and Buckler.

As you will be able to tell, we have work yet to do, but by breaching the barrier into a constructive alpha we can test out all our game features on the road to our first release of Beta V1.0 which is not going to be far away.

Our objectives from this point onward are clear:

• Add both the Longbow and the Bill to the arsenal of weaponry available.
• Finalise our melee modes by in-game testing.
• Increase the number of Kingmaker maps.

The precise status of development can be gauged via the production line on the Kingmaker forums which is always being updated to reflect our progress.

Dear All,

We are looking for modellers (Maya / 3Ds Max) and animators to help us. We need only to push development in that dept. to get a very good working next-stage alpha.

Any help would be appreciated in this matter,

Indeed, items such as that are interesting to read. It would be reasonably easy to compile a fact database for loading screens, but please don't expect it in the very first release. Beta V1.0 will be simple, but solid so that we can build upon it easily in subsequent releases.

As Richard of York was crowned before the battle in which he was slain, Henry Tudor did a bit of a history re-write (as he won) so it didn't look like he committed Regicide. Hence the phrase "Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword"

Hope you can include other historical nuggets like the one above on loading screens and such.
