Run. Think. Shoot. Live. Source.
Black Mesa is the Half-Life 2 total conversion of the original Half-Life game. Utilizing the Source engine and its endless array of possibilities and powers, Black Mesa will throw you into the world that started the Half-Life continuum and introduced Gordon Freeman to the world as a gun-toting, bullet-dodging Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.
Black Mesa was built and founded on the principle that Half-Life: Source did not do the original title enough credit, regardless of the true intentions laid out with the release of Half-Life: Source by Valve Software. Subsequently in November 2004, Black Mesa was founded and set out to reconstruct the original title, giving it the new environments, models, and abilities it deserved on the Source engine. This total conversion will not require Half-Life: Source installed on your system to play, only a legitimate and working version of Half-Life 2. At the present time, Valve Software is not associated or involved with the development of this project.
Here is a small list of planned features of Black Mesa:
This mod is not dead, we are still hard at work on it.

Merry Christmas Black Mesa fans! We're proud to bring you some new media and updates on development progress!
First off, we'd like to draw attention to the fact that voting is taking place for Mod of the Year on the ModDB website! If you want to vote for us, visit this link, scroll down to Best Upcoming Mods, and click on our banner to vote!
Development has been going great and proceeding steadily towards completion. The team has really settled into an efficient development pattern, with very few bottlenecks arising in development now. Internal milestones have been organized to ensure a timely release, and we've been doing a great job of hitting those milestones. It's been very exciting to see so many different elements of development come together and make a playable game!
And now, to the media! We've decided to do a complete overhaul of almost all the previous screenshots, as well as offer them in a higher resolution, widescreen format. Previously released areas have undergone many changes during the course of the year, weapons have been tweaked and reanimated, and we've also got some new, previously unseen areas from both singleplayer and multiplayer to unveil!
This is not all, however, we've got a surprise in store that is currently in late stages of production and will be done very soon, we'll be sure and release it, as well as some other image-based media, when they are finished!
In an effort to keep the community more up to date with our progress, we've implemented a whole new "devblog" section to our website. Very WIP screenshots and informal text-based updates will be added to this section on a regular basis. Keep in mind that this is NOT to be considered official media, which is extremely polished and what we consider to be a glimpse of the final game. Rather, this is a look into the day-to-day workings of development structure and the community will be able to witness sneak peeks of different areas of development.
And finally, Black Mesa is seeking the following applicants as top priority:
Details are available in the Jobs section, if you think you've got what it takes, don't hesitate to apply!
Until next time, we appreciate your support as we continue to work hard on Black Mesa!
You need to have Flash and Javascript running in your browser to see this player.

Only registered members can share their thoughts. So come on! Join the Mod DB community today (totally free) and do things you never thought possible.
Is the pc gamer article accurate? According to it you guys are 30% done and have been working for 4 years.
This is the most exciting mod I've ever seen but if thats true it looks like we will be waiting another 8 years :(
Yea they pulled that number out of a hat. Its much higher. Remember this DB used to say 50%...
They didn't get that from us, we would have given them a much higher number.
I wonder where is the actual percent of progress now. -Let's just think about the last devblog: enemy and roach movement (btw, they're awesome). So, appereantly many-many features have been maid -or at least they're under development.
My question is, that what part is the least completed?
(satisfying the millions of fans does not counts)
You know i've been following this mod (and been apart of the Black Mesa community) since the Leak Free days, and while I know this project is in full stride, its so hard to wait between updates.
The other troll account was banned, it could be the same troll, but made a different account. Though it could be 2 trolls, who knows.
You're a smart one.
for everyone reading these comments look at the second "a" in Kalashnikov's name on his profile. the real one has a normal "a" but in the fake Kalashnikov, the a is bold faced (or maybe just a slightly different shape) on the profile.
**EDIT
Its actually two different trolls look:

Real one:

Why dont you just look at the dates that they joined moddb?
Your right, if you look real closely you can see the difference. It's hard to see at first.
