Team Raptor would like to present a mod that has been in the works for a little while, Dino-Instinct, now a Half-Life 2 mod in production, was once going to be a mod for Half-Life "Classic". After going through an alpha and many members later Dino-Instinct moved on and decided to clean the slate and work anew on Half-Life 2.

Dino-Instinct is about two teams of dinosaurs going at each other to reach a common objective according to the type of gameplay. The first three gameplay types we're planning on implementing are Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture The Flag. To those of you who somehow take that to mean these are the only gametypes there will ever be: go re-read that last sentence, I think you confused the word "first" (which implies there will be more to follow) with the word "only". Also, please remember that we are always open to suggestions. Anyone can drop by our forums and add their ideas to the "suggestons" area.

We are also planning on having a leveling system similar to that used by the Call of Duty 4 engine, where leveling up gets you new "perks" or abilities (ie sprint farther, jump higher, that sort of thing). A player's XP will transfer across all servers, with stats being stored locally in an encrypted file. If the mod gets popular, hopefully Valve will let us use Steamworks which would give us even more flexibility (stats would be linked to your account, so they would not only follow you between servers, but also between different computers, as long as you are logged into your steam account) Steamworks would also allow us to have auto-updating, achievements, etc. but it will be a while before we get to that point.

Team Raptor currently has several job openings. If you like dinosaurs and have experience with modeling, animating, mapping, etc please check out our job openings or send us an email at jobs@dinoinstinct.com. If you're good at what you do and are enthusiastic about learning to mod, then past experience with modding is not necessary.

Alpha approaching

News 5 comments

No guarantees, but if all goes well alpha testing could begin as early as next week!

This is not, I repeat, NOT going to be a publicly-released alpha. We'll release a video of some playtesting after we've had a chance to play it a bit, but please keep in mind the combat is currently VERY VERY basic.

I'd also like to take this moment to welcome the newest member of our team, Mache! He has already created several great plant models, and I am looking forward to seeing them in-game!

We're still looking for people to fill several positions, most importantly we need a level designer and an animator. Level Designers get to play with awesome new plant models, courtesy of Mache! If you're interested, drop by our forums and apply.

What's going on? It's been over a year now since news about the alpha. Is SG:TSFN taking priority or something?

It´s like.. people would want it to be dead.
And you keep disappointing them by releasing new media.

Shame on you. >=(
