What is Metal?
Metal is an attempt to bring some of the gameplay aspects of Metal Gear Solid (Mainly the agent versus the big group of enemies, and perhaps some stealth-like gameplay) to Quake. However it isn't supposed to be just "Metal Gear Solid Quake." The idea is to be Quake with more of military-realisim-ish aspect to it. It's hard to say, since there was no one goal from the beginning to achieve.

Metal started as just a "I bet I could make a cool M37 Shotgun model." Then, plenty of sleepless nights later, I had added on a bunch of really cool stuff that I made mostly myself, with great help from inside3d.com's tutorials, and some people at the Quake Standards Group forum. (Names mentioned in Acknowledgements).
The weapon models I made and skinned myself, and I might even try and do them again, better. Made from scratch except for the Quake guy hands I ripped from the v_axe.mdl in Quake.
The CTF code was completely NOT mine, but a kick ass plugin made by Wazat. (http://static.condemned.com/ if you care to download it yourself, or want to check out his other cool stuff.)
One might notice in the autoexec.cfg file, one of the commands (a cheat command) is "MetalGear." Probably 20% of my life I spent playing Metal Gear games. They rule. So, the "MetalGear" cheat gives you an Infinity Bandana that gives all your guns unlimited ammo for a period of time. It has also replaced the Quad Damage, so if you play through Single Player, you can find it "legally."
Why replace the Quad Damage? Well, I think I made the weapons pretty powerful already, and you'd probably run out of ammo trying to have crazy fun with the Quad Damage. This way, not only do I get to pay homage to Metal Gear, but you can still have lots of crazy fun. (Especially the "right-click M67 grenades" MAD FUN!
Quake is pretty old now, and everyone's playing new spiffy games like "World of Warcraft" or Counter-Strike: Source, however, if not even anyone plays this mod, it was still worth the fun time coding, modeling, and learning. I plan to work a lot more on it, and improve what I have, and add more.

The iron sights turned out to be more fun and easy to make than I originally thought. First, I was planning to use sprites to make them, but last time I tried that, it didn't come out well at all. So, instead I used models. They look pretty good, I'd say (I uploaded a pair of screenshots so you can see.) There is no sights for the M37, simply since there are no sights on an M37! It'd be pretty pointless anyway since it's pretty much shooting a blanket of pellets whereever you're facing.
Also, the first campaign maps have been started, and will include items in the maps.
My item system will be more like that of Quake2 where you can actually carry the items with you, and use them when necessary. However, most items won't only work for a limited amount of time. (I want to avoid them seeming like powerups.) So far only a gas mask and health are in the works. I need to come up with more item ideas.
I may release Beta 3 early, and only put in a few of the Campaign maps, since I have been adding several other things. I will just see how it goes.
