Star Wars: Imperial Winter is a free, multi-platform, real time strategy game using the open-source Spring RTS engine. Featuring over a hundred different units for the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance, spanning from The Phantom Menace to Return of the Jedi, SW:IW aims to not only contain the best gameplay of any Star Wars RTS, but the most diverse cast of units, including: Stormtroopers, TIE Fighters, X-Wings, stealthy Rebel Commandos, Bothan spies, Royal Guards, Wookiees, "reactivated" Battle Droids, repulsorlift tanks, walkers, and more!

Gameplay features include asymmetrical balance, with the two factions playing very differently from each other; territory-based constant-income resource system allowing a fluid economy rather than paying upfront; realistic weapon physics, with every single projectile's path is realistically calculated, meaning your men can hide behind a hill from enemy laser fire but not from an artillery cannon, and many other features.

Some units, such as Jedi/Sith and AT-AT walkers, will not be initially available because of the balance issues they bring. We must first develop the lower-level units before we can implement such strong units.

We are proud to announce our feature in this month's issue of the magazine PC Gamer UK! PCGUK contacted us back in early December and we conducted a brief e-mail interview and sent them a few spiffy new screenshots. If you're British or happen to see the UK copy of the magazine at your local bookstore, pick up a copy and check out our feature, as well their other fine articles :)

To those of you who are new to Star Wars Spring thanks to PCG, don't be afraid! We may seem quiet, but the truth is we prefer to focus on working on our game instead of hyping it constantly. You can check out the new image gallery on our site, monitor our progress, and chat with us on IRC.

If you really want to get involved, we have several community projects which literally anyone can participate in, such as our open voice actor request. Also, in the near future we will likely be opening our beta to more testers, so don't forget to sign onto our forums and check back often!

Weirdoman_45634, we're careful about setting release dates, because we are an all-volunteer team, so it can be difficult and stressful to meet them, as well as upsetting people waiting for them.

However, I can say that we're closer then we've ever been before, and the pace has picked up remarkably in the last few weeks.

On a less fortunate note, I think I better let you know that there are no plans for ATAT's to be in our first release. While we definitely have ATAT's planned, they fall into the 'Super units' category, along with Jedi, Sith, Orbital bombardment and other weapons. These units will be included after our major release as an 'add-on' pack. This is to solve the earlier problem, namely that we want to get a release out ASAP, and super units are so large and complicated that they can take a long time to create and balance.

Never fear, you'll still have over 100 other units to play with in our coming release ;)
