Science and Industry 2 is a teamplay modification for Half-Life 2. It is the sequel to the long-running Half-Life modification Science and Industry. Players take on the role of Security Officer in a bitter struggle between two rival corporations in the world of defence technology research.

It is the job of Security Officers to acquire and protect the company's most valuable resources - the scientists, which develop technologies for the company, and the technologies themselves. Since it is the technologies and scientists which generate the income for your company, which in turn keeps the company at the leading edge of the business world, these resources are vital to success.

However, the company isn't content with just having its own scientists and technologies - the opposition also has plenty of scientists working for them. Stealing scientists from the opposition is a great way to increase productivity, and keep those new technologies coming thick and fast.

Of course, the opposition has the same idea, so defending the company's existing resources is as important as "recruiting" new ones. Of course, the intricate threads of the universe are difficult to untangle when standing in the middle of a firefight, so for maximum productivity, keep the combat out of the laboratory areas as much as possible.

Features:

  • Success is centered around profit, rather than points - the company with the most advanced technology and the largest profit wins.
  • Stunning and interactive world - utilising the power of the Half-Life 2 engine the Science and Industry universe is brought to life like never before.
  • Dynamic game balance - each round begins with basic weapons only, with each team developing new weapons, armour and enhancements as the game progresses.
  • Player-selected advancements - the next technology researched by the company's science team is determined by a company-wide vote, allowing players to directly affect the progression of technology for their team.
  • Diverse teams - the differences between the two corporations involved in the game are emphasised considerably, with drastically different visual styles for each team.

Rocket PistolYes, it's here at last. The beta version of Science and Industry 2 for Half-Life 2 is now available to download. Get your briefcases and rocket pistols ready, enjoy the new shrink rays and give this successor to one of HL1's biggest multiplayer mods a good run through. Servers are available worldwide.

Clarification: Some people seem to be expecting a full-blown version of the mod with everything in place. If you are, this isn't it. This is a beta version with most of the coding in place, but still distinctly lacking in polish. Look further than eye candy and enjoy the gameplay!

The long-awaited release of Science and Industry 2. Note that this is a beta release and not the complete game.

After playing it today, I can only say it sucks... I mean it sucks for now. There's a lot of things that need to be change or fix... and a lot of things which need to be add. I hope next beta will be much better :)

Wow keep it up looking great.
Although skins,textures,etc are missing.
I would say your all progressing along nicely.

Although a public release is not a bad idea to stir up attention, next time you guys get things done is the time to make a official
release.

It's written on the website : "So I guess it wasn't clear from the release announcement that this was intended to be a release to stir up interest in the mod, all the while still being in the development process. I'm sorry if you were mislead into thinking it was a full-blown finished product just because it said version 1.0."

What I would do is just polish the game up so it doesn't look like HL2 or CSS.

I tried the beta or whatever that was but it was far from complete. I really hope you guys polish and fix this mod up, it's really one of those mods that stand out from the others. I played the hl1 version to death.

Feedback

What went well :

- S&I game premiss is there

What would do differently :

- Add skin to pistol.
- For this release until models added, chnaged models so at least tell teams apart.
- Recruit some more coders/model makers/mappers.

depends on how far the game/mod is in developement. I think they should have stated in CAPS that it was far, far, far from completion. Plubic beta is ok but it has to be done in a manner that everyone understands that it is far from what it will look/play/feel like
