This is mod would be by far one of the greatest things to ever happen to people with DirectX7, why? Well, do you want cool effects that your graphics card can't do because it is an old piece of trash? If so this mod is for you! This fine mod will add a shine to your currently dull looking Half-life 2 game, how? After weeks of struggle I came up with this type of emulation done through messing with Half-life 2's materials. Once i got an idea of what I was doing I started to not fiddle, but take my quick found knowledge of what differnt values and and codes do in the materials and use it to my advantage, how did I as a cheap basterd do in this despirate scenario? Well I think that question is better off for you to decide in my gallery.
Here is a checklist of what is complete
-------------------------------------------------
HL2DM 100% - The stun stick and S.L.A.M. look great, as seen in the gallery
Weapon Models 100% - Might be touched up along the way but they look great currently
Enemy Models 100% - Might be touched up along the way but they look great currently
Vehicles 100% - All vehicles including combine ones (Ex. Combine apc, Which looks fantastic)
Npcs -100% - This is pretty much just the shining up of the G-mans Deadly briefcase
CSS 10% - comming soon....
One Word of warning to some, this is not the same thing you would see in DirectX8 or 9 becuase it is not specular, therefore dont get excited if it doesn't look like it should on higher DirectX levels, other than that those like me who dont have DirectX8 or 9 will be very pleased, as it is a cool new effect with no performance cost, well atleast not for me. By the way if your wondering im using a radeon 7000 64mb and 256 mb ram and 1.7 amd 2100+ processor.

That's right DX7ers, you can finaly see what you have been sort of missing. The Download should be up and ready to go so download it, check it out...
TheBusGuy's Shine Patch for DirectX 7 has now had new content added! The HL2DM models are all shined up and ready to go now, what was ones just for...
The same mod as the one for HL2 but modded to work with Episode 1
The models look way better than in Regular HL2!
There's never going to be a CS:S version, is there?
yeah, i have a nvidia geforce 4 mx 460 with 64 mb so this is the right thing for my computer, thanks
yes it works for HL2 DM.
as for slow downs, I dunno if you want, you can go into the files and delete things you dont want shined to improve performance
Hey I have half life 2 deathmatch, will this work with that too?? And It also runs slow on some of the bigger levels :S Can anyone help me??!?!? PLease?!?!?!?
Dont expect any more "shine fixes"
I am finaly upgrading and no longer need the use of such a thing.
besides, i have very large doubts that it would be acceptable for episode 2 since in many interviews it is stated that Valve is trying to make dx 8.1 the low level and maybe dx7 and with a shine fix also running dont expect to play it at all.
wow, that has to be the most helpful mod out there, knowing that i did have dx7 kind card and a lot of textures were missing, but making HL2 actually look good on a crappy comp., hands off to you.
tyranick, it should work with smod and substance. if it doesnt work if the mod is installed in normaly just manualy install it in the smod or substance folder.
problem being would be that all the things that are in substance and smod would not be shined. the stuff from hl2 would be though :D
Yeah i was wondering...will the work with any hl2 mod? for example if i wanted to play hl2 substance or smod, would the the textures and shines and stuff appear in them? or will i have to copy the files over seperatly...forigive me if this sounds stupid...im still learning =)
Well... there goes my hopes and dreams. :P
